Taverna TO FILADELFI

Filadelfi
(Visited in April 2010)

Five of us visited this small taverna in Ampelokipi in a Saturday evening.

It took us about 3 min walk from Panormou Metro Station. There is a small square - although it isn't formally a square, in front of this taverna and 5 or 6 eateries stand side by side. I guess the area should be quite cheerful in a more warmer season.

Salad
The menu is rather long, if not huge and there are quite many unfamiliar Greek regional dishes, some from Constantinople, some from Greek islands. There are meze dishes, grill dishes, meat and fish 'cooked' dishes (here 'cooked' means 'not cooked to order like grill dishes'), salads and desserts.

We ordered several dishes, but I don't have photos of all. Here are the selections.

In this photo is salad with romain lettuce, mini tomatoes, paksimadia (dried bread), capers, mitzithra cheese, and Balsamic vinegar. OK.

Keftedes Mix
This is a plate of various big keftedes. They are I think potato keftedes, tomato keftedes, and .... I am not sure about the green ones. They were quite good as vegetarian keftedes, although I am not fond of deep-fried food. Behind the plate is tyrokafteri which wasn't hot at all to me.

kleftiko
This is Lamb Kleftiko.

I think that kleftiko covered with cheese is unusual. It wasn't bad, but too rich to my taste (again, this wasn't my choice, so it is not my place to complain).

yaourtlou
This is yaourtlou.

Again, it is unusual, because 'yaourtlou' usually is kebab covered with yogurt. This one contained meat keftedes, yogurt, mitzithra (or anthotyro), yellow cheese and yogurt, and baked in oven. It wasn't to my taste (I don't like meat keftedes so much), but the person who ordered it was happy with the dish.

sikoti
I ordered grilled liver served with minty tzatziki sauce (€9). The tzatziki had a fancy Turkish name, but I don't remember it.

It was all right, if a bit too salty. The portion was huge. I should have shared it with someone else, but they were too busy with their plates and did not have space in their stomach.

We ordered also a Bekri Meze, two portions of fried potato, a few bottles of beer, one big bottle of water, bread, and two cans of soft drink; the total bill came to €86.

Personally I thought we had too much meat and too many deep-fried stuff (no need to say that it is not necessarily the opinion of the others); it is not how I usually eat and it made me rather uncomfortable. For this reason, I am not sure if I liked this place or not, although at least I can say I don't mind trying again.
