Grill tavern KANDAVLOS (Gazi-Keramikos)

(Visited in August & September 2010)

Kandavlos
Kandavlos is psistariá (grill tavern) facing to the Keramikos Square (I don't know the official name; it is the square you come out from Keramikos Metro Station), usually busy with young Greeks.

Here you can eat a pita souvlaki for just above 2 Euros, served at table; one of the cheapest places to eat in this area.

But we order 'merida', i.e. a portion of meat with all the parafinalia (potato fries, pita, sauce and a bit of veggie), which comes in a huge quantity, enough meat for 2 people.

In the photo left is yaourtlou, kebabs with yaourtlou and red sauce.

Kandavlos
This is a salad of which I don't remember the name. You can probably see what are the vegetables. The white cream on top was a cream cheese similar to Philadelphia and on top are capers.

The above kebab and salad were enough to feed 2 of us and with a bottle of beer and water, the bill was less than 20 Euros.

These are what we ate on another occasion.

This is 'Kandavlos', biftekia filled with cheese and served with tzatziki, feta, chips and pita.

We combined the above with this salad I think was called 'tis pareas'. Vegetables with cheese and balsamic dressing. There was also an Arabic pita bread underneath.

With the same drink, the total bill was again less than €20.

I don't think the food is super-delicious, but the price is right and I like the fact they have many sorts of salads which is a rare characteristic for psistaria.

If you want to eat cheap at Keramikos, this is where you should go.
