Italian Restaurant PECCATI DI GOLA (Glyfada)

Peccati di Gola
(Visited in May 2010)

We visited here in a warm Sunday afternoon.

We placed a reservation a day before. Over the phone we were asked if we were smokers or non-smokers and we answered we didn't smoke. On arriving we were disappointed to find that the non-smokers' tables were all indoor and didn't have much light. We were lucky to snatch last one non-reserved outdoor and smokers' table. It is a shame all the non-smokers should be clummed into dark indoor space during the summer season.

Peccati di Gola
The restaurant is in the centre of Glyfada, but at the same time in quiet residential area. Maybe for this reason, there were many young families with kids when we visited (all the kids in the smoking section, of course). It is a quite casual sort of place.

The menu is neither short nor long. Apperisers, salads, pizze, paste, risotti, meat and fish dishes, and sweets.

Prosiutto e mozzarella di buffala
We ordered a plate of prosciutto crudo e mozzarella di buffala (€13.50). I thought we chose something light, but I was totally wrong. The mozzarella was probably the largest I have seen and the salty ham required to be eaten with bread. All very enjoyable, but I thought it was too much if I wanted to eat something else.

Bread was a sort of focaccia with less oil and less salt. At the beginning we were told that there were two sorts of bread. We were explained that one was this and the other was bread sticks. I guessed the latter was glissini, but looking at other tables, they looked more like focaccia cut into sticks.

Pizza alla capricciosa
Actually we came here to eat pizza. We cook pizza at home, but it does not come out like pizze we used to eat in Italy.

This is pizza alla capricciosa (€11). It was not large, but not small either. Probably it was a right size for someone eat it as a sole main dish, but after a copious amount of ham and mozzarella, he needed an extra effort to finish it.

The pizza was delicious, but there was something different from the Italian pizza. We agreed that the crust was softer for some reason. Besides, I found that it was slightly burnt, while he said it was within forgivable limit.

Paccheri
Not to eat too much pizza, I ordered a pasta dish; paccheri with salmon, mascarpone, and pistachio (€16).

Paccheri is a rather rare type of pizza eaten in Campania region of Italy. It was in fact the second time I ate this pasta, the first being in Napoli.

The portion looked very small, but I too had difficutly in finishing it. It was because I was almost full with the appetizer, but also because I did not like it so much; I found it rather boring, but he - who likes any pasta with cream - favored it.

Limoncello
I would have loved to try a dessert, but were too full at this point. We just accepted the offer of limoncello. In this photo the glasses look huge, but actually were in liquor glasses (thank God).

It came frozen, as it should be.

Espresso
We could not resist having two espresso coffees (€2.50), which were very dense and good Italian espesso.

We had also a large glass of beer and a bottle of water, and the total bill came to €57 (we left €60 with gratuity). Not cheap considering we did not have any real main dish (fish or meat second piatto, I mean), but I am afraid this is normal price we have to pay for Italian food in Greece. I have to add also that the cover charge is €2.50 per person.

All in all, positive experience and I don't mind going back, although I won't call it my favourite restaurant (yet).
