The true façade of the Parthenon is the east side, as is for all the Greek temples. However, the geography of Acropolis is such that the west façade, which appears first to the visitors's eyes, should have an equal importance.
In the pediment was a statue group of the competiton between Athena and Poseidon over the guardianship of Athens.
