Mourning Athena, Acropolis Museum

Mourning Athena
Please note that all the exhibits were moved to the New Acropolis Museum, opened on 20 June 2009.

<Location> Acropolis Archaeological Museum, Acropolis, Athens, Greece

This relief is called either "Mourning Athena" or "Contemplating Athena"

Here Athena wears peplos with a belt on her waist. She wears a cask and her left hand is holding a spear, which, however, is poiting downward. What represents the rectanglar slab in front of her is not clear. Accoding to some, it is a boundary marker.
