
The odeion of Herodes Attikos is situated on the southern skirt of the Acropolis. According to the ancient travel writer Pausanias, a multi-milionaire Herodes Attikos constructed it to commemorate his late wife Regilla (died 160-161 CE). It was completed before 170.
The façade is 28-metre high, and originally it was covered with marble plates. The capacity was about 5000 people. The roof was covered with very tall cypress from Lebanon.
in the '50, the seats were restored with marble, and now it is used as theatre and music hall.
