Baked fillo pastry and crushed nuts in syrup

Baklavas is a dessert ubiquitous in Middle Easten and Balkan area. Layers of filo pastries and crushed nuts are baked with butter and then soaked in sugar based syrup. Baklavas in Greece can be sold in oven-baking tin (tapsi) as in the photo left or in single pieces. |
| Smaller pieces of baklavas are called baklavadakia, meaning small baklavas. As nuts, usually walnuts are used, but can also be almond and/or pistachio. |
