Tyropita
Cheese Pie
Cheese Pies are typical between-the-meals snacks for the Greeks, but they are also eaten as proper meals.
'Tyropita' just means cheese pie and there are many recipes for it. The ingredients and shapes vary.

This one is 'tyropita fournou'. The fyllo pastry was country-style (i.e. thick) and the filling is a mixture of various cheeses (while as well as yellow cheeses), egg and probably also milk.
The one in photos below (we ate it in a drive-in near Lamia) was made with thinner pastry and feta.

This is Tyropita Koulou, cheese pie made with biscuit like pastry. You can find it at bakeries or fast food shops. It is usually less fatty/greasy than flaky pastry cheese pie. |
