Agia Marina seen from Aphaia.
Agia Marina is a town on the north east coast of Aegina, and is connected with Piraias (Piraeus) with ferries during the summer season. Along the beach are many bathing facilities (in 2002, a parasol with two sun-beds costed €7), cafe' and restaurants.
On the map you may have an impression that the temple of Aphaia is not so far from Agia Marina. But it is quite difficult to reach by foot, as the temple is situated on high ground.
We visited the temple by bus from Aegina. At the site, we asked one of the guardians how much time it take to go down to Agia Marina. As she answered it would be a quarter of an hour, we decided to descend on foot. The information was not quite accurate, and we had to walk for 45 minutes under the sun.
