<Location> Elefsina (Eleusis site), Suburb of Athens, Greece

A kind of altar made of Roman bricks, but, as another construction is recognisable underneath, this might have superseded a smilar previous altar.
It has a form of an rectangular well, with a deep hole in the middle. This type of altar is called Eschara - sacrificial hearth - , and is related to the deities of the underworld.
