The Sacred Way is the road that connected (and still connects) Athens and Eleusis, and at the starting point of Athens, there is the Sacred Gatein the Kerameikos site.
Now, at the end of the Sacred Way, there is a modern monument as seen in the photo above. In front of it, there is the large forecourt of the sanctuary paved with Pentelic marble (photo right).
This Forecourt was constructed during the Imperial period, probably under the Antoninus Pius, and the initiates of the mystery purified themselves here before entering the sanctuary to perform the mystery.
