Where I ate in Hydra Town
Omilos in Hydra
I stayed in Hydra only 3 nights and I cannot say I have general idea of Hydra's food scene. I just make note about where I ate.

In the photo above is the restaurant where I DIDN'T eat. The place is called Omilos and, when Hydra used to be a jet-set of the rich and famous, it was a favorite call of Ari Onasis and Maria Callas. A Greek girl who was lying next to us on the beach ate here and, according to her, the food was all right, but rather pricey.

Sunset Restaurant
This is where we actually ate: Sunset Restaurant, or Iliovasilema.

It is situated at the promontory just after Spilia, at one end of Hydra Town.

We ate Melizanosalata, Pan-fried cheese pie, Green salad, and Grilled pork chop with chips. Food was just OK level. The price was higher than what I would pay for that food, but not intollerably so, considering its location.

Iliovasilema Restaurant, Hydra
What I did not like most was the impersonal and indifferent service.

This is the same restaurant photographed on a different day. As its name say, the best way to use this place is to go there at sunset time and drink over a few dishes admiring the view (my review here).

Lulus taverna
This is taverna Lulus, or Loulou in Maiouli Street, in front of Pension Kirki. Unpretentious and easy-going eatery serving Greek classics as well as fresh fish. They have also fixed price set menu.

In guidebooks a taverna called Steki on the same street is recommended, but it seemed to be closed down.

Paradosiakon
The mezedopolio Paradosiakon was recommended to us by a guy at our hotel reception. I think it is on Tombazi street.

They serve meat as well as fish mezedes and main dishes, traditional but with a touch of creativity. We liked this place and visited twice. Not cheap, but not expensive either.

Me Kremidi
This is a souvlaki restaurant in front of Paradosiakon.

We have not eaten here, but it looked quite busy. Might be good.

Kseli Elia
This is another place I did not go: Kseli Eliá. It is often on guidebooks and the ambience looked lovely. Probably for these reasons, it was full of foreigners, which worried me. But it actually does not mean anything and it can be a good taverna.

The receptionist guy also recommended Psaropoula fish restaurant in the port and Annita on Votsi Square. Next time, unfortunately.
