Fiskardo is situated almost at the north end of Kefalonia. It is thought to be the ancient Panormos.
Its name derived from Robert Guiscard who died here in 1085. Guiscard is one of the leaders of the Normans who occupied the Southern Italy and Sicily in the eleventh century. He died during the expedition in Kefalonia. His body was brought back to Italy and buried in Venosa (now in Basilicata).
Fiskardo is one of the few towns in Kefalonia that did not suffered the effect of the earthquake in 1953. Consequently there still remain traditional houses.
From Fiskardo here are ferries to Lefkada and Ithaki. The port attracts also many rich Europeans who cruise around with yachts.
