Upper Terrace of Asklepios' Sanctuary, Kos
Great Temple of Asklepios
This is the Great Temple of Asklepios at the middle of the upper terrace; this is the view from the behind (from the south).
Floor of the Temple
This is the floor of the temple.

This Doric temple was constructed in the 2nd century BC.

Trace of column
Trace of column. As you can see from the photos above, there are no columns remain standing. There used to be 6 columns in front and behind, and 11 at each side.

Christian capital
A capital above a broken column, which was used as a part of alter. The Greek alphabets "IEXC" means Jesus Christ (IESUS XRISTOS). In Christian period, this place was used as a church called Panaghia tou Tarsou.

Sculpted slab
Sculpted slab I found on the ground, to the west of the temple. These are the crosses and should belong to the Christian period.

Sarcophagus
This stone box lying next to the temple seems to be a sarcophagus. As the ancient Greeks did not have the custom to bury the dead in the sacred ground, this should also belong to the period after the late antiquity.

Stoa and Patients' room
Ruins of the stoa on the eastern end of the upper terrace. The building to the right is supposed to be the rooms of the patients, in the same way as the lower terrace.
