Churches in Paleopíli, Kos
Ipapandis Church
There are a few churches of 14th and 15th century in Paleopíli. While most of the housing building were destroyed to the foundation, churches are still on foot even if they are abandonned. The one in the photo above is the largest one in Paleopíli called "Ipapandis (Purification of the Virgin)". When we visited, it was under restoration and cound not get closer than this. According to Barber's guidebook, the inside is decorated with 14th century frescoes, but Dubin says it is not decorated.
Church of Archangel
This is the church of Archangel, close the entrance to the site. From this side it does not look like a church, but if you see it from another angle (photo below), you see it is a baslica church with apse.

The arch in front of the church shows the Western influence, kind of the example you find often in Rhodes and Cyprus.

Apse of Archangel church
The façade that you see in the photo above is the right side of the building in this photo (left).

The inside should be covered with frescoes, but the entrance was closed and we cound not enter.
Reused inscription
This ancient inscribed marble piece is reused as the base of the arch. It is placed upside-down.

St. Nikolaos church in Paleopili
This is Ag. Nikolaos church. There is a gutter in front of the church, but it was completely dry.
Inside Aghios Nikoalos church
This is the view of the interior, which was badly in ruin.

On the wall of the apse, there remains a fresco painting showing probably the Communion of the Apostles.
