A very old building situated on the south side of the
Kronion Baths. Prytaneis are the officials who were responsible of the administration of the sanctuary and the the sacrifices to the gods; the building was their official residence. The feast of the Olympic winners was also celebrated here.
The first prytaneion was constructed at the end of the 6th century or at the beginning of the next, but it was enlarged successively in later period.
There was an alter of Hestia in this complex and on the first day of the Olympic Games, the Eleians made the initial sacrifice.
