Kouméïka and Bálos
Koumeika
The name of this village in the south-western part of Samos is spelled Kouméïka, but sounds more like Gouméïka.

Fountain
In the central piazza of the village stands this plane tree and the villagers sip their coffee in its shade.
This is the white marble fountai in the piazza. It is beatifully sculpted. It looks more like a foot-washing place we usually find near mosque than a real fountain.

Koumeika is on higher ground, and if you go down toward the sea, you will arrive at Balos. This is how it looks like. There were no real bathing facilities (at least when we visited there), and the people swimming here were either locals or those who staying in hotels and rental-appartments near by. We heard that a rental appartment for 2 could cost about €20 a night.

Beach of Ballos Akrogiali Restaurant

This is the taverna "Akrogiali" on the Ballos beach. It offers not only the usual svlaki dishes but also more complicated foods like Spanakorizo (spinach rice), Imam Bayaldi (fried aubergine cooked again in oven with onion), etc.; these were excellent. In Greek tavernas, you often end up in eating standard, uninspiring dishes (even when they taste nice), but here some of the dishes had unexpected twists and I enjoyed them very much. This is the address (?) and phone-number copied from their paper napkin ↓
