Karfas beach is relatively close from Chios and there is frequent bus communication during the summer. When we asked our hotel staff in Chios which is the closest beach, they she recommended to go to Karfas as there isn't nice one in Chios town.
As we arrived late in the afternoon, there were few people and sun-beds were folded; I would guess there are more people during the daytime. Different from Chios town, which is more like local commercial and political centre, Karfas town is touristic with many hotels and restaurants catered for the tourists (food seemed to me more expensive here than in Chios town).
This photo was shot from one of the cafeterias of Karfas. The land we see across the sea is Turkey; for able swimmers, it would not be so difficult to swim across to the other side.
